All of our Bavarian Mountain Scent Hounds adults and puppies are dual registered with United Kennel Club and American Kennel Club - Foundation Stock Service.
While investigating various breeds of tracking hounds in the early 1990’s I stumbled across an advertisement in a Gun and Hunting Show catalog. The picture and information fascinated me, as it showed a Bavarian Mountain Scent Hound tracking wounded game in Germany. I kept the ad and began my internet search for more information. It wasn’t until after 2005 that I was able to find a breeder in the United States, however he was only placing people on a waiting list of five years or longer. I continued my search on the internet and finally found the ethical breeders and tracking blood lines in Europe that I desired.
Since 2014, we have imported several BMSH into the United States. We started with“Vicia” UKC Champion Sfora Nemroda Vicia of Oak Hill, from Poland in 2014. In 2015 we imported “Sweet Pea” UKC Champion Oak Hill’s Le Bleu Cardinalis Sweet Pea from Poland, followed by “Birch” UKC Champion Oak Hill’s River Birch Amberock from Latvia. In 2016 we imported “Fada” Oak Hill’s Meu Fado Fairy Iris from Poland and “Cherry”, Oak Hill’s Mons Bellator Cherry from Hungary. Through artificial insemination, Vicia had a litter of puppies in the fall of 2016. We have retained “Cedar”, a male puppy, Oak Hill’s Southern Red Cedar. Our plans are to import a final male to complete our program of outcross breeding, Oak Hill Dogwood LasowNadWarta from Poland.
In choosing these European imports, attention was paid to the Coefficient of Inbreeding of each puppy to ensure the least amount of inbreeding in their background. We studied dam and sire pedigrees to identify any potential carriers of heritable diseases such as idiopathic epilepsy. Parents of our imported puppies passed their hip dysphasia test prior to breeding. Many of the parents of our imported puppies have ISHV (International Schweisshund Verband) stamps on their parent’s pedigrees and several working /show titles from European breed clubs.
Our primary goal has been to produce outstanding, healthy, low COI litters with exceptional tracking ability. In addition to Wounded Game Tracking, our puppies are equally suited for Search and Rescue, Mantriailing, Medical Service/Alert/Therapy, Police Work, Family Pet, and Show.
